Men Who Knit, Peru
On the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca, Taquile Island is known for its fine woven and knitted textile arts. A tradition dating back hundreds of years, knitting is exclusively performed by males, who learn the craft as early as age five. Taquile is one of the few communities in Peru where all residents continue to create textiles and wear typical indigenous clothing daily.
